PIELSTICKER PHOTOS FINE ART GALLERY
My name is Bill Pielsticker This is my online gallery. Please contact me at Pielsticker Photos to review high-definition files and terms of use.
I use Nikon 35mm equipment plus a Sinar large format (4x5") view camera to
capture scenes of beauty and natural wonders on film (transparencies). I then scan the transparencies myself,, adjust the highlights and shadows, tweak the color, and otherwise work up a digital file for printing. I use a Canon printer with Chromira pigment inks to produce images that are safe under glass for over 100 years.
Why do I still use film? For really large images of the outdoors, large format film still exceeds the capacity of digital equipment. You need to see my work in person to experience the incredible detail of my landscape scenes. While visible in an 11x14" enalrgement, this is really apparent in my 16x20" and larger prints. Also, while using a view camera, I can alter the plane of focus to better capture key elements of a scene, or change the perspective to correct for converging lines of sight.
Will I ever go 100% digital? For now, I am content with the outcome from a hybrid process. I may convert to digital for my 35mm work now that cameras with full-size sensors are available. However, I expect it will be some time before I put aside my 4x5" film!
Which are my favorite images? My favorite landscape is the one I am currently working on, meeting the challenge to effectively capture the full character of the scene. However, I am especially proud of
my series of ice images. These include the other-worldly (black ice) images of my Inner Space series and the Rorschach-like Patterns series. Keep in mind that these are not abstractions from reality but actually are well-grounded in just what I see in winter as I roam about the surface of a frozen lake.
I believe that we should leave the earth a better place than when we came into it. I hope my work inspires you to value nature and wild places, and to work to preserve them.
